Britain’s King Charles has received a diagnosis of cancer, according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Monday.

Following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, in September 2022, Charles ascended to the throne. The palace emphasized that despite this setback, Charles remains optimistic about his treatment and eagerly anticipates resuming his full public duties at the earliest opportunity.

Last month, king Charles spent three nights in the hospital for a corrective procedure addressing a benign enlarged prostate. During this hospital stay, medical professionals identified another health concern, described only as a “form of cancer.”

The palace stated, “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.” Nonetheless, Charles will maintain his responsibilities regarding state affairs and official paperwork while undergoing treatment.

Additionally, he will continue to hold meetings with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, while Queen Camilla will uphold her scheduled engagements.

This announcement coincides closely with King Charles and his daughter-in-law Kate’s recent discharge from the same hospital, where they both underwent planned medical procedures.

Kate, the Princess of Wales and wife of Prince William, underwent abdominal surgery for an unspecified non-cancerous condition, necessitating a two-week hospital stay.

Prime Minister Sunak conveyed his well wishes to the King, expressing confidence in Charles’s swift recovery. “I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time, and I know the whole country will be wishing him well,” Sunak remarked.

The royal family has been informed of the King’s cancer diagnosis. Prince Harry, Charles’s younger son, plans to visit the UK in the coming days to be with his father, as confirmed by a source close to the Duke of Sussex.

Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry has been residing in California with his wife Meghan and their two children.
