Equatorial Guinea Official Arrested in Scandal Involving 400 Sex Tapes Featuring President’s Sister and Prominent Women

Baltasar Engonga, Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been arrested amid shocking allegations involving the wives of notable public figures in the country.

Authorities claim Engonga recorded over 400 explicit videos featuring these individuals, a scandal that surfaced during a separate fraud investigation into his activities.

Fraud Investigation Unveils Trove of Explicit Content

The revelations came to light when authorities, conducting searches in connection with Engonga’s alleged fraudulent dealings, uncovered CDs containing explicit material at his residence and workplace.

The recordings reportedly include spouses of high-ranking officials, such as the Director General of Police’s wife, family members of senior government leaders, and even the sister of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, along with the wives of several government ministers.

Public Outrage as Videos Leak Online

Many of the videos were allegedly filmed in Engonga’s office, with some showing the national flag in the background—a detail that has intensified public outrage and scrutiny.

Although reports suggest the interactions were consensual, the content has leaked online, sparking widespread condemnation and an intense media reaction. Ahora EG has called this incident a “historic breach” of ethical norms, especially from a high-ranking public official.

Government Responds with Swift Suspensions and a “Zero Tolerance” Policy

Locally known as “Bello,” Engonga’s actions have placed him at the center of a national crisis, with accusations involving several influential individuals.

Equatorial Guinea’s Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, clarified that consensual relations, if free from coercion, do not constitute a crime under current laws.

However, he expressed concern over potential public health risks and emphasized the importance of addressing any cases of abuse or non-consensual acts, should they arise.

The Attorney General also highlighted the possible spread of sexually transmitted diseases as an added concern stemming from Engonga’s alleged conduct, underscoring the government’s urgency in responding to the scandal.

Vice President Issues Strong Condemnation

In response, the government has moved swiftly to suspend officials found engaging in sexual activities within ministry premises as part of a broader “zero tolerance” initiative, intended to rebuild public trust.

Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue took to X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the behavior, asserting that “ethics and respect are fundamental in our Administration.” He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to uphold integrity within public service.

Renewed Focus on Integrity and Professional Standards

This case has underscored the administration’s resolve to enforce a professional and ethical environment across governmental bodies, as officials work to restore confidence in the country’s institutions and foster a culture of respect within the public sector.
